Hi all,

I just noticed that Central Computer put the AMD Opteron CPU on its
price list, so I stopped by for a quote. It looks like $1662 buys
a complete box with an Opteron 240, 1G of PC2700 RAM, ATI Radeon
9800 Pro, 2 80G WD IDE drives (for RAID), DVD/CD-RW, Floppy, and an
Antec case w/ 430W PS.

Tack on to that a copy of Turbo Linux which a 64-bit Opteron ready
release for about $80 (versus about $700 for SuSE). Or download the
early beta release of Redhat for Opteron.

Is anyone else been interested in moving to x86-64 Linux? Maybe we
could do a group purchase to get the price down a bit. Hmmm. Split
ten ways even the SuSE dist. wouldn't be that expensive assuming
there isn't any proprietary licensed software on it.

Look ma, no threads[1].
