BayLISA, the Bay Area system administrators, would welcome any SVLUG
member interested in Samba to come to our meeting this week. Jeremy
Allison has just come back from the CIFS conference, where he was a
keynote speaker. He'll recap a little bit on that - his topic was the
death of CIFS.
Jeremy will be mostly speaking about what's new in Samba 3. For any
among us who don't know, Samba speaks that strange filesharing and
service sharing protocol that Microsoft successfully took to its own
purposes and then started using everywhere. Nowadays it competes with
NFS neatly for general filesharing, mainly because Samba is so darn
good at it...
Where: BayLISA meets at Apple campus - De Anza Building 3
10500 N. De Anza
just north of Stevens Creek, south of Mariani/the entrance to
Infinite Loop and the 280/De Anza exit.
When: People are arriving about 7 pm
Brief announcements at the mike at 7:30 pm
Jeremy speaks
~9:30 or 10 pm - speaker thanks and final announcements
adjourn to afterdinner
Jeremy is always, always an entertaining speaker, so don't miss out :)
