[svlug] script idea

Hi folks;

I'm always looking for neat ways to use my Linux box and I had an idea (i'll call it newsradio) that I wanted to run by folks here to see if I'm re-inventing the wheel.

I'd like to make a script that selects, downloads, plays and deletes random music files from the usenet binaries groups.

Example:

Uses nget to grab a list of files available over several newsgroups.

Randomly select 5 or so selections to download.

Play the first downloaded selection while displaying and logging info from the songs id3 tags incase I hear something I really like.

Delete the selection after playing. (I don't want to collect music, just have nice background music while doing chores.)

When all but two or three songs have been played and deleted, select five more random selections to download and put in play queue to keep things going.

Sounds simple and would be fun to script but I can't help thinking that it may already have been done.
I've seen a few progs that are geared towards collecting music from usenet, but nothing that will just play them like a radio without keeping them.

I'd like to make it just a simple bash script that uses common tools and utills.

Thoughts?

Peace;

Kim
