svlug at lists.svlug.org:

Regarding SVLUG mailing lists and mailing list policy
(http://www.svlug.org/policies/list-policy.shtml), may I suggest:

1. That the policy state the procedures, punishments, appeals, etc.,
    for violations of the policy.

2. That the policy state that it be placed in the "Mailing list
subscription confirmation notice" people receive when they sign up
    for a list.

3. That the policy state that a positive response to the confirmation
notice indicates acceptance of the policy by the person subscribing
(or by the licensee of the software that is subscribing, in the case
    of automated subscriptions).

4. That an option be given for a negative response -- e.g. a mailbox
somewhere. The policy should state what happens to such (counted
for statistical purposes and then discarded?).

5. Whenever the policy is changed, that it be formally ratified (by
the officers?) with a future effective date (one week after
    ratification?).

6. When a new policy is ratified, that all current subscribers be sent
    a new confirmation notice.

7. When the new policy takes effect, that all old subscriptions be
    cancelled.

p.s. I do not have mailing list server administration/ automation
experience, but I do have Perl and other skills. I am willing to
learn and to help with the mailing list server.
