I think Marc and I basically agree on this.
It's in Nvidia's interest not to publish driver source, and it's
in the users' interest for the distributions and other developers
to have it.
Imagine if you had to sign up at a vendor's site to get the drivers
for every part in your system. What a pain!

It is in users' interest, long-term, to prefer hardware with free
drivers to hardware with proprietary drivers, even stable ones.
Choosing to run a proprietary driver is a regrettable, shortsighted
decision, although it's one that some people feel they have to make.
