one SCSI controller getting fried on the bus (the disks each have a
controller on board) can electrically screw up the communications for
all the bus' users. try each one of the disks seperately, check the
termination.

in any event, I still wouldn't trust such old disks with my info, even
if one or both wake up from their coma.
