First, let me point out that 2.2.3a is closer to the latest version of 
Samba available.

Well, without some more info, like a network trace, a better description, 
and copies of log files relating to the problem, a solution might not be 
forthcoming. It could also be that upgrading to 2.2.2 or 2.2.3a will fix 
the problem.
