How about allowing them a little national pride?  What's wrong with
Linux?  It certainly isn't inferior in any significant way to any of the
other choices, and it isn't a monopoly in any meaningful (i.e. harmful)
sense any more than standardizing on the metric system would be a
"monopoly", so why not?
