I got mine working relatively painlessly.  Here's what I'd try:

1) Make sure your interface is up, but doesn't have an IP address.
`ifconfig' should tell you the interface is "UP", but shouldn't report an
IP address.

2) try running adsl-start in debug mode

# DEBUG=1 /usr/sbin/adsl-start

It'll log a bunch of stuff to a file (it'll tell you where).  You can then
see where it's hung up.

3) Make sure you're using the software from Roaring Penguin directly.  I
tried gettting it to run with the rpm's in the RedHat distribution, but I
never connected until I recompiled it from source.
