Actually this appeared again today (well it appeared right after I reboot to
get rid of the 700). It appears as two processes:

565 0.0 0.2 1764 764 ? S Jul03 0:00 /USR/SBIN/CRON
568 0.0 0.2 1760 756 ? S Jul03 0:00 /USR/SBIN/CRON

The odd thing is that everything is in uppercase, so this isn't really
/usr/sbin/cron running. (or it could be and it's some fluke that it's all in
uppercase?). If I restart crond (/etc/init.d/cron restart) they disappear.

Package: cron
Versions:
3.0pl1-72(/var/lib/apt/lists/http.us.debian.org_debian_dists_woody_main_bina
ry-i386_Packages)(/var/lib/dpkg/status)
3.0pl1-57.3(/var/lib/apt/lists/security.debian.org_dists_stable_updates_main
_binary-i386_Packages)

ps aux didn't say they were running anything, there are no logs related to
the incident and theres plenty of disk space. The only latest package I've
installed was cupssys (cupsd printing system). This was immediately
firewalled from the internet as I firewall everything below tcp port 1024.
