I'd just like to say that I'm just a sysadmin by default - I'm a
programmer, mostly.  I have no interest or time to spend tweaking and benchmarking.
I figure people'll start complaining when it gets too slow, and at that point
I'll upgrade the dern thing.  Maybe it won't happen for years.  Maybe we'll
turn into the next Macromedia and get to hire actual sysadmins who know
what they're doing.  Maybe I'll be laid off next week.  Who knows!
I just wanted to reassurance that the hardware upgrade path is as
easy as I assumed it was.

Thanks to everyone who replied!  Both me and my boss are now resting
easier.
