[svlug] LPRng strips ESC-code

Hello group,

Our SA is having no luck at making LPRng (3.7.4-28.1 or 3.8.15) send barcode
data to our printers - unaltered.
(BTW - rpm reports 3.7.4-28.1 is installed, but version information when
various lpr commands are run reflect 3.8.15; could our system be corrupted
with combination of installs leaving incompatible lpr files?)

The print system removes the ESC code preceding the graphics code and
results in simply printing the code as text.

Using lpr -F l or lpr -F b or lpr -l and other combinations of options
(representing binary or literal options) fails to make LPRng respond.

Hex code dumps from the Linux server (Red Hat Linux release 7.2 (Enigma)
Kernel 2.4.7-10smp on an i686) show the code to be stripped (a Linux 6.1
running lpr - not LPRng correctly sends data unaltered - and results in
barcode printing as expected).

Has anyone encountered this problem and resolved it by any means (replacing
the LPRng with other version or replacing LPRng with older lpr)?

Another annoying feature of LPRng is that it insists on inserting a FormFeed
at end of job.
All documented efforts that we've encountered fail to suppress the FormFeed.

Any comments appreciated. Thanks.
