[svlug] server question

hello all,
   I have a question I hope you can help me on. Over the last few years I have aquired Much knowledge useing linux on my home network. I have a friend that wants me to use this experience to install an e-mail server for them. I plan on installing qmail for this task, I've installed it at home and it works quite well but have never had any experience at installing a true mailserver, what am I goinna have to study up on? do I need to know bind? DNS? She plans on useing win2000 as the main server, can I run the mailserver through the main server, does it need it's own seperate ip adde? if it needs direct access to the internet, how do I configure it for a T1 line, as you can see, I have a zillion questions.
