The poor fellow just wants some tips on Linux, and the first tip he's
learning is not to ask for help here. I'm sure you all mean well but
let's help him out constructively.
Con Tran,
The 7.1 that you refer to is likely the version of the Red Hat
distribution that you're using. When referring to your version of Linux
you will need to state your kernel version, since that's really what
"Linux" is, a kernel. The rest of what makes your system usable for you,
like the command interpreter (shell), windowing system, etc, is all
packaged up into a "distribution" by helpful folks out to make money
(commercial distribution, like Red Hat) or to help make the world a
better place (religious distribution, like Debian (that's a joke by the
way, kinda)).
So feel free to say something like "I'm running Red Hat version 7.1,
kernel version 2.4.12, on a pentium II 400" and people will have a clear
idea of the system you're running. This way they'll be better able to
help you, and may not need to ask for more information from you, at
least not about your system itself.
I'll counter your question with another:
Why do you need to use sendmail? If you have the freedom to choose what
mail server software to use on the machine, I hear Exim is really easy
to setup, and I know for a fact that Postfix is really easy to setup,
learn and run as well. It's my opinion that you'll have an easier time
starting with one of those software packages. Of course that's just my
opinion, and I don't know much.
