You're going to have to use an IMAP server which has its own LDA so
that you can be guaranteed that the LDA and the IMAP server are both
honouring the same locking semantics. Recommend Cyrus IMAP; it has
its own LDA, performs admirably, and satisfies you're requirements.
Courier IMAP is another possibility, if MailDir isn't a problem.
