I don't think apt-get is exclusively an admin thing.
When KDE 2.1.1 came out, I had it the next day with a simple upgrade.
All dependencies worked out, and nothing on my box broke.
Granted, this was in 'unstable', but I don't recall any other
distribution having beta packages available that easily (if even
at all). Even for ones that do keep up with some of the major things,
they can't even come close to the speed of upkeep of the thousands
of packages that are maintained in Debian.
I use Debian because of its admin power.
I use Debian because of its timeliness for my desktop.
I use Debian because of the general quality of the packaging, to include
its policy.
I use Debian because it is free.
We don't need another distro war, as I'm sure everyone will have
reasons for their own favorites. Just wanted to point out that there
are things beyond the admin strength of apt-get and security.debian.org
that draw people in...
