[svlug] Access data in an ext2 filesystem image file -- as non-root user?

See subject.

Anyone got a trick for accessing (preferably: extracting) the data in
an ext2fs filesystem image file, as a non-root user?

The constraint is that the root account isn't available. Mounting the
file as a loopback filesystem isn't possible. Transferring the data to
a system on which root access is available is a possibility, though it's
expensive time-wise (can you say remote access boys and girls...).

TIA.
