I received the drive this morning and hooked it up to the IDE
interface on a working (SCSI based) system.
I powered up, logged in as root and ran:
# rescuept /dev/hda
(actually "rescuept /dev/hda | mail drew at champ", so I could store the
result on my workstation.)
The output:
# partition table of /dev/hda
# total size 40020624 sectors
unit: sectors
# 48 MB ext2 partition (type 83): sectors 63- 98368
# 0 MB candidate ext pt (type 5): sectors 98784- 98784
# 8434 MB found in ept (type 83): sectors 98847- 17370863
# 8434 MB found in ept (type 83): sectors 17370927- 34642943
# 256 MB found in ept (type 83): sectors 34643007- 35168111
# 256 MB found in ept (type 83): sectors 35168175- 35693279
# 256 MB found in ept (type 82): sectors 35693343- 36218447
# 17637 MB extended part ok (type 5): sectors 98784- 36218447
# 0 MB candidate ext pt (type 5): sectors 36483615- 36483615
# 259 MB found in ept (type 83): sectors 36483678- 37013759
# retracted
# 0 MB candidate ext pt (type 5): sectors 37013760- 37013760
# 259 MB found in ept (type 83): sectors 37013823- 37543904

/dev/hda0 : start= 63, size= 98306, Id=83
/dev/hda0 : start= 98784, size=36119664, Id= 5
/dev/hda0 : start= 98847, size=17272017, Id=83
/dev/hda0 : start= 17370927, size=17272017, Id=83
/dev/hda0 : start= 34643007, size= 525105, Id=83
/dev/hda0 : start= 35168175, size= 525105, Id=83
/dev/hda0 : start= 35693343, size= 525105, Id=82
/dev/hda0 : start= 37543905, size= 530145, Id= 5
/dev/hda0 : start= 37543968, size= 530082, Id=82
I ran fdisk /dev/hda and invoked the "switch units" command, then
rebuilt the partition table:
hda1: primary, sectors 63 - 98368
hda2: extended, sectors 98784 - 36218447
hda5: logical, sectors 98847 - 17370863
hda6: logical, sectors 17370927 - 34642943
I wrote the partition table and was returned to my prompt. From
there, I mounted and checked each partition. The data is saved!
