I'm not sure about this; I believe the answer is "yes".

You can have more than one version installed at once.  You can see
what you have via

ls -l /usr/lib/libstdc++*

On some recent Debian systems, there are at least two versions
installed and there might be four or more versions available.

For example, Debian currently is providing

Package: libstdc++2.10
Package: libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2
Package: libstdc++2.8
Package: libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1
Package: libstdc++3
