At the very least, use ssh with a .shosts file.  Better solution: use a
public-private keypair (man ssh-keygen).  http://www.openssh.org/ gets
you the source, and you can build it on the IRIX box (and on the Linux
box, for that matter, but your distribution should provide binaries).
