Not sure if this counts as expert, help, or timely, but....

Recently had to configure X on a system which didn't run quite right
under XF86Setup (a really cheap, SISxxxx video card -- that's otherwise
absolutely fine -- US$36, no-name boxed at many stores). Found that
it's possible to dig modelines out of the XF86Setup monitor data file:

    /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Setup/mondata.tcl

Some which might be helpful, though not quite what you're asking for:

    " 320x200 @ 70 Hz, 31.5 kHz hsync, 8:5 aspect ratio"
    "12.588 320 336 384 400 200 204 205 225 Doublescan"

    " 320x240 @ 60 Hz, 31.5 kHz hsync, 4:3 aspect ratio"
    "12.588 320 336 384 400 240 245 246 262 Doublescan"

    " 320x240 @ 72 Hz, 36.5 kHz hsync"
    "15.750 320 336 384 400 240 244 246 262 Doublescan"

There are also several online X modeline generators which might be
helpful. Google 'em up.

Cheers.

What part of "Gestalt" don't you understand? There is no K5 cabal

Are these opinions my employer's? Hah! I don't believe them myself!
