You're talking out-of-the-box? If you're used to building your own
kernel (granted, possibly not a newbie skill, but should be expected
from a skilled GNU/Linux users), this is trivial to roll yourself, and
is equally supported -- after all, it *is* the same kernel. Debian's
kernel updates are quite timely.

FWIW, there's been a thread in debian-user the past week or so on "why
choose debian". You should be able to find it in the list archives at
http://www.debian.org/ (this makes up for my referencing last week's
SVLUG backup strategies war on debian-user....).
