begin  Greg Retkowski quotation:

> Lets not forget that 90% of the world still uses cleartext passwords
> for services include pop, imap, telnet, ftp, and http-authentication;

...and they're delighted to let _you_ the sysadmin be the person who loses
_his_ sleep rebuilding and recovering systems, largely on account of their
stupidity. But, of course, there _are_ ways to provide those
plaintext-authentication access mechanisms without significant security
problems. (Please tell me this isn't news to you.)

In any case:

> ...that's not for me to judge the reqirements or security level of their
> environment.

Some sysadmins insist on implementing good administrative practices on
machines they're responsible for, as reflecting on their professionalism
and good name.
