Rick,

You act as if the LDP is some sacred ground that must only be contributed
to by individuals of pure heart and empty pockets.

If the choice is that the HOWTO is never written, or it's written saving
countless souls who knows how many hours of frustration with a few lines
acknowledging the contributions of another organization that happens to
be a for-profit company that _makes it possible_ - I'm taking the second
option.

Who knows? Maybe This mention in the HOWTO generates a huge amount of
sales for said company and they decide to hire hordes of documentation
writers and Linux finally has a world-class documentation resource.

Attaching a companies name to something they've contributed to is certainly
nothing new in the Linux world. Do you use XFree86? Thought so. See their
sponsor page:

http://www.xfree86.org/contrib

or maybe

http://www.debian.org/sponsor.html

Oh no, now I can't use Debian, since they are soiled by corporate interests
that are trying to make a buck while at the same time keeping the software,
information, and servers free. gasp. (thats sarcasm for the humour impared)

Do I like that it's there? No. I'd prefer that it wasn't there.

The funny thing about advertising - if you ignore it, it goes away.

Will
