Have you thought of using netatalk?

Also, low volume, it's possible to stuff all the files together in an
archive and use scp (included with NiftyTelnet with SSH).

This assumes that there's a network connecting the Mac and Linux boxes.
There are Mac implementations of tar, gzip and zip.

Macs can read/write MS-DOS floppies (depending on the system software
version, this may or may not be an add-on) and so can Linux, so that seems
the best option.
