[svlug] Maximum Linux dead

I don't work for Microsoft, he's just trolling me.

I do however work for WildTangent (http://www.wildtangent.com), and my
boss/founder is Alex St. John -- who invented DirectX. Hence people keep
pushing my buttons.

What they fail to realize is how much Linux plays a roll at our company, and
how hard I push to have our technology ported. I'm fighting the good fight,
but my efforts seem to be in vain on all fronts, because no matter what I
do, some people can't see past the surface.

For example we've recently started to get our WebDriver to work in Opera,
since Netscape has dropped the ball and just is a horrible twisted pile of
shit these days. Say what you will, IE is still the best and fastest web
browser -- I know this from experience, not hearsay.

The issues with porting to Linux still remain: No true standard 3D API yet,
no standard for Audio yet, no web browser that is stable and consistent. And
most importantly, not enough market share to warrant a port. These things
take money and man-hours. Things that are better spent perfecting the
existing WT API and then when the day a port is made, it will have all the
benefits of what we've learned and incorporated. Believe me, my company is
well aware of Linux and Macintosh, BeOS and even several of the game console
machines. I don't like the fact that we're not cross-platform any more than
any of you -- in fact even worse because I have to deal with it every
freakin' day, and take shit from all the windows people I work with day in
and day out, then I have to be berated by people on this list as well.
However I'm not so blinded by the Linux hype that I can't see the reasons
for the companies decisions at this time.

However Mr. Lehmann's retort below was just unfounded and blatantly
misleading. What I do for a living has nothing to do with MaximumLinux
magazine or my reviews in it.
