You seem to have accidentally left off the last few words of this
question (whatever it was supposed to be). I.e., too expensive to
_accomplish what_?
I can only assume that the question was accidentally garbled, since it
does not seem meaningful as posed.

Boy, you're looking for a whole _flood_ of gratuitous and abstract
speculation, aren't you? Try Ziff-Davis. ;->

Gratis-usage. It'll still be proprietary.

My guess is that you arrived at this guess _prior_ to reading the
relevant on-line materials.

On a related note: (1) Just out of idle curiosity, how many of the
entries in http://linuxmafia.com/~rick/faq/#idedev have you installed?
(2) Do you actually code in Object Pascal? If so, have you at least
tried Lazarus (http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org/) and the Free Pascal
Compiler?
