I've been laid off from three companies in the last 14 months, two of
them were very short stays when an expected project was cancelled.
All are fortunately still in business (as are the three other
companies I worked or contracted for since moving to the bay area),
but for some survival is not assured.
Some of the things I do know:
- most of the households I know have one unemployed adult
- most of the people I know who have changed jobs have "traded down,"
often WAY down. I know developers working for Starbucks. I'm too
overqualified; Starbucks won't call me back.
And that just about says it all.
