[svlug] YP and SSH interaction?

When I ssh from my work computer, which uses yp for login and home
directories, to my home machine, which doesn't, there is a very long
delay before I am asked for my password.  Sometimes I get the
message:

mettus [mettus] 133> ssh home.ettus.com
do_ypcall: clnt_call: RPC: Timed out

which is followed by another delay, and then a request for my password

Once the connection is set up, there are no more issues.  The only
other thing I run into is that sometimes that machine takes a while
to start to get web pages which the Win machine on the same hub gets
immediately.  Perhaps there is some DNS interaction?

Anyone have any ideas?

P.S.  Its a not-so-stock RH 7.1 i386 system.
