Please, correct me if I'm wrong here, I haven't looked that closely at the
details.
Isn't /boot/System-map the one we really care about it here?
If your booting several different kernels (?), after you compile you could copy
/usr/src/linux/System-map to /boot/System.map-2.2.17, and then in one or your
startup scripts (whenever klogd is started?) according to the uname(1) of the
booted kernel symlink it to /boot/System.map. Don't forget to take care of
your old system.map. :)
I realize if your filing an OOPS bug report you'll end up with the wrong
symbols, but besides that, are system.map error messages anything more than a
minor annoyance?
