Not at all. I use LIRC to execute shell commands when I press buttons
on my Hauppage remote control. This means that I can lie in bed and
have complete control over XMMS, including volume, stop/play/pause, and
prev/next track. I set up some buttons to cycle virtual desktops, and
another to lock the screen. If I wanted to, I could also set up the
pointing device as a remote control.

It's quite cool; it makes my computer an ultimate stereo system.
