Robert Baruch has done a nice job getting HP USB burners working.  He
wrote the shuttle_usbat.o code which works on a few of the HPs, as
well as on my sandisk sddr-09 smartmedia reader.  

It is slightly advanced to set up, and you need a recent 2.4.0-test
kernel, but it does work well.  Check the linux-usb project at
sourceforge for details.  

On the other hand, I have a SCSI Plextor that works perfectly.
