Karsten -- As you no doubt know, this list is set up so that the default
action taken by MUA "reply" choices will be to reply to the user, not the
list. Now I DO NOT want to rekindle the eternally boring debate about
whether this is a good or a bad arrangement; it is just the way it is, and
we all have to live with it as best we can (as those of us on some other
lists have to live with the opposite arrangement, which has its own distinct
set of inconveniences).

Many of us are accumtomed to selecting our MUA's "reply-to-all" choice,
which causes copies to go to both the poster and the list (for lists set up
like SVLUG). I suspect that even you do this, since your message was
addressed to both the list and Mr. Peterman individually. It's convenient
for us ... much moe convenient than editing the reply headers by hand every
time ... and not too inconvenient for the poster.

I too get a lot of duplicates this way. Discarding them is no big burden,
even when done by hand ... and any Linux hotshot can autofilter this process
(though I'll leave a detailed explanation, if you need one, to someonw who
actually uses a Linux-based MUA).

This is a long way of saying that I am unlikely to honor your request
(though I made an exception in this instance), and I predict that people in
general will not remember to honor it. The system used on this list for
replies has both advantages and disadvantages, and you are experiencing one
of the disadvantages. I expect you will continue to do so, and that you will
simply need to learn to live with it.
