TAL-> I dunno what 1480 is, but you can do a:
TAL-> 	lsof -P | grep ":"
TAL-> and it will show you what programs have open ports.

Thanks for the hack, it revealed the following:

gnome-ses,1699,wiliweld,3u,IPv4,3356,TCP*:1480(LISTEN)

of course with the output being manually reduced to above by me. I'm
on a different box right now.
