More Details from SRPMs/Net -- Re: Breaking the 2GB EXT2 file size
limitation with LFS patch ...

First off, thanx to Jeff Siegal for his various postings of info.
I knew I wasn't nuts and had actually seen this info before:

> Here's a patch. I have no idea if it is the current one, or if
> it (or something like it) is in the mainline 2.3 now:
>     http://linux-patches.rock-projects.com/v2.2-f/lfs-32bit.ht

He also identified it in the RedHat 2.2.14-6 kernel SRPM:

> The Red Hat 2.2.14-6 kernel SRPM does in fact contain a LFS patch
> (the file is called linux-2.2.14-lfs.patch).

*** NOW HERE ARE MY DISCOVERIES, VERY INTERESTING!!! ***

    $ rpm -qpl kernel-2.2.14-6.1.1.src.rpm | grep lfs
        linux-2.2.13-bigmem-no-lfs.patch
        linux-2.2.14-lfs-headers.patch
        linux-2.2.14-lfs.patch
        linux-2.2.14-sparc-fixes-lfs.patch

     $ rpm -qpl kernel-2.2.14-12.src.rpm | grep lfs
        linux-2.2.13-bigmem-no-lfs.patch
NEW --> linux-2.2.14-lfs-fix.patch       <-- NEW
        linux-2.2.14-lfs-headers.patch
        linux-2.2.14-lfs.patch
        linux-2.2.14-sparc-fixes-lfs.patch

I was using the stock kernel-2.2.14-*.i686.rpm compiled versions
of these kernels. I usually do compile my own, but didn't have
time to do so on these production servers.

Again, I was able to create a tarball over NFS that was larger than
>2GB (~2.5GB) with kernel-2.2.14-6.1.1.i686.rpm (and related RPMs)
installed (and booted). But once I upgraded to the
kernel-2.2.14-12.i686.rpm (and related RPMs), any tarball stopped
at that "magical" 2147MB number.

So this can mean one of two things:
  1. RedHat forgot to enable it (???) in the
             kernel-2.2.14-12.i686.rpm ???
  2.  The "2.2.14-lfs-fix.patch" in 2.2.14-12
             screwed it up.

I'm checking RedHat's Bugzilla system to see if anyone else has run
into this.

P.S.  What's with "linux-2.2.13-bigmem-no-lfs.patch"?  It's in both
of them. I need to find out more.
