Of course it is likely.  More than that, it is inevitable.  The
dangerous code probably wouldn't be explicitly designed as a virus, of
course, but it could easily be the case that code designed for some
other purpose--say automatic upgrades of installed software--could
inadvertently act like one and destroy (or worse, subtly corrupt)
valuable data.  

That's what those disclaimers are there for.
