[svlug] How do I write my backup script?

Hi,

This is the 2nd time I type this message, as the first
did not go through.

One of my co-worker quit, and nobody took over his
computer, so I installed Linux in it, secretly. I'd
like to use that Linux to do backup for me, but I
don't have a clue how to write the program to do the
backup.

The problem I encounter is that the program I use
(Pro/Engineer) saves versions of files, that is, the
first time I save the file (aaa for example), the file
name will be aaa.prt.1, the 2nd time I save the same
file, instead of overwriting, it saves as aaa.prt.2.
The computers are as followed:
1)RedHat 6.0 (192.168.0.4)
2)NT4.0+SP4 (192.168.0.3)
I can use Samba successfully in Linux.

I would like my Linux to do the following:
1)create a new folder of the date (~/000624 for June
24, 2000)
2)copy all the files with the newest versions to the
new folder.
3)purge all the files with old versions and only leave
the newest versions in my NT machine.
4)if possible, I'd like to backup to another NT
server.

Please advise if that's a good backup plan, and/or
give me some instruction how to write to backup
program. Thanks.

Sean Cheng
