Incidentally, "CH" for Switzerland, and ISO for "International
Organization for Standardization" / "Organisation Internationale de
Normalisation" have similar roots.

Switzerland is a three-way confederation of three nationalities:
German, French, and Italian. "CH" abbreviates the Latin (or Greek)
"Confederation Helvetia". Key being that it's a foreign name to all
three tounges.

Likewise, "ISO" is a three letter acronym which reflects neither the
English nor the French official names for the international
standards-setting organization, which was settled on no doubt after long
days of high-level international wrangling.

Touching on the cz != Czechoslovakia comment -- it's interesting that in
a Europe which appears to be growing increasingly nationalized, that
Switzerland has long been an island of peace and neutrality (if not
ethical banking) despite its multinational constituency.
