It's the 'heartbeat' of the computer - specifically, how many
timer interrupts per second. On intel machines, it's 100. Alphas,
I think, are different.

I don't know what is wrong to give you that message -- I've never
encountered it before. It's not a needed environment variable (echo $HZ 
gives nothing, and 'uptime' runs fine here).

I wouldn't necessarily reboot because of that either. Not with some
serious uptime like that :).
