which will get you really really close to the meeting IIRC if you get
off at Baypointe. That's probably the best way. Dunno how late Caltrain
runs though. Light rail runs 24 hours a day, but the buses to and from the
light rail don't, and svlug meetings (especially if one goes out late) tend
to run late.

It is pretty good, as are the various web sites. vta.org, for instance,
lets you download a map in .pdf format which you can then use in connection
with the vta.org site to find generally where you need to catch a bus or
light rail. If you combine with mapquest or zip2, you can pretty much
figure things out, after a fashion. That's basically how I do things. On
the other hand, the Ventura County link on transitinfo.org has a system where
you can pretty much enter in your starting and ending places, and the
system gives you the info. AC Transit says they're planning on implementing
it within a few months, and it would be super cool for the other 
transit sites to do so as well.
