My klogd similarly went crazy and had a huge impact on my system when I
tried plugging in a new soundcard.  The module loaded but I couldn't
get a peep out of the card.  (Incidentally, the card didn't work under
W98, either).  A quick strace on klogd revealed nothing.  If I had had
time to try different klogd options, I might have attempted to figure
out more, but since I was crunched, I put the old card back in.
