Without reading much, I suspect that thing senses temporal magnetic
field flux differentials. I'm not surprised: Those Gaussian transducers
are incredibly sensitive these days. But just think about it. Once your
telephone lines go digital, then your neighbor can attach one of those
to your outside line and record everything... It won't work on an
analog line.
