Very true. However do you really think it either wise or reasonable
to inflict sendmail on fledgling admins when other more approachable
and equally competant tools like Exim and Postfix are available?

I've not run into that argument before and have only heard of it in
regard to QMail (and its seeming mail bombs if the number of
simultaneous deliveries is not controlled). Certainly in running
Exim for the last several years I've neither had nor heard of such a
problem -- or for Postfix for that matter.

Yeah, I thought about that, but that seemed counter to the "LAN"
noun so it was then a question between whether he really meant
__any__ IP (and thus didn't really mean "LAN"), or whether he did
mean "LAN" and thus had a predictable subnet with random allocations
(ala DHCP with short leases). So I took one side of the gamble and
ran with it.

I've unable to find it currently, but it used to be a long page or
series of pages which gave a series of increasingly refined Q&As at
the end of which it built you a customised sendmail.cf. Its been in
my bookmarks for years, Yahoo has links to scores of pages that have
links to it, but the page itself (and surrounsing Sendmail grokdom)
seem to be gone.
