Just to let you know, the problem is solved.
The problem was that the Modelines for 800x600 were NOT being loaded (due
to a bad Vert Frequency range config.), and the display was then
configured to 640x480 (dumb that I am, I didn't notice that before ...
>8-( ... ).
With the help of a working XF86Config file sent to me by Nate Campi
<nate at campin.net>, I finally figured out the correct guilty part and fixed
it. Now, the display looks _really_ nice!! :))
Thanks to all who answered, and of course, thanks a lot to Nate Campi for
the big help.
In the end, the problem was really the resolution config. of 640x480 ...
