I checked alt.sources.* - it's pretty much dead. Most binaries groups
are so chock full of spam that trying to get any useful stuff that way
is a lost cause. ftp sure is a tool that is still viable, but there
probably are 'warez' sites that are really spammers trying to get
people to download ads. If all of Usenet just decided to drop 
alt.binaries.* into a black hole, big deal.
