Hmm .. I use PacBell w/ PPPoE and get about 1.2 Mbps down / 400 Kbps up and
I have had very little problems with it (unlike when I first got a PB DSL
back when they first started offering it).

I had them set it up with my older Alcatel 1000 DSL modem and attach it to my
Windows (shudder) laptop and verify that it was working, and then played
around with the linux pppoe software that they provided until I quickly
realized it was crap.  The Roaring Penguin software is a lot better, although
it has some problems with a couple of its scripts which I remember editing,
but I don't remember what exactly I did.  I'll see if I can find them if I
ever make it home from work one of these days.
