Grab the latest sendmail source.  There is a "doc/op/op.ps" file.

This is the operations guide. (84 pages) Very good as a reference manual.
Page 28 is the start of the section on this topic. (section 4.7.2)

I find this guide better than any book out there.  It is kept up-to-date
with the current version of the source that you get it from.
