Probably that (a) you have the ident service listed in /etc/inetd.conf but
(b) the actual in.identd process that is listed is not present on your
system. To eliminate the messages, comment out the ident service in
/etc/inetd.conf and restart, or SIGHUP, inetd.

I don't quite understand what you are describing here. Do you mean you hear
dialing and such through the modem speakers? If so, find the modem
initialization string sent by whatever program does the dialing and add to
the existing AT string "M0" (without the quotes). That tells the modem that
the speaker is to be always off. Sorry if I've misunderstood your question,
though.
