Well, I've been using a package called xfstt for a while now and it works
great. I get the fonts under any app I like (although I'm not so sure
about the Gimp's antialiasing I've heard so much about...) I just grabbed
the debian package from... <insert searching sounds here>
ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/slink/main/binary-i386/x11/xfstt_0.9.10-6.deb
and installed it and off I went. The truetype fonts are filed in the
-ttf-* foundry or something like that.
