I'm enclined to believe you. I like redhat, but I don't claim that
everyone should, or that it is the answer to everything. There are other
options: Debian, Suse, Caldera to name a few (in my order of preference).
I haven't yet used turbolinux, so I can't comment on it.
However, I do claim that slackware should just go away :-)
(it's too old, and not maintained well enough).
Slackware will install on some PCs where RH will fail, but I'm certain that
Debian would install just as well on those machines.

That's not a lot of details. I've found RH's Xconfigurator to work quite
well (with supported PCI boards, at install time, it will setup X for you
without asking any questions), but if it doesn't work, you can still use
XF86Setup, or xf86config, just like you would on slackware.
Since I used to maintain a howto in French on how to hack X modelines, I
personally maintain the file by hand :-)

Sorry, but once again, you elude me here. Are you saying that RH generated a
/etc/lilo.conf that doesn't work for you? Well, if it did happen, you can
edit it by hand, just like you would on slackware.

Yes it is.

You didn't enable debugging, or try the shell script I posted.
If you've been using linux for 6 years (most likely SLS and slackware),
don't you know how to do this by hand (i.e. without the RH GUI?)

You provide no debugging information, and my crystal ball is being serviced
right now. Sorry, but I can't help you in those conditions.

If they're the same, you do not need to re-install them
rpm -i --force would be mainly used when you re-install a binary that has
been corrupted.

There is a learning curve to go through whenever you change distributions. I
remember I also had to go through it when I switched from slackware to
redhat 3 years ago.

As Rick said, that weren't his words, and 2.2.2 is definitely not
experimental.
You did use to run 0.98 and 0.99plx kernels, and from the 1.0.x series
onwards, right?
You do know about the kernel numbering scheme right?
